BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL) has taken its first steps in the international market.
According to a company statement, EPC major, Rockson Engineering Company Ltd, has contracted BRPL as its ‘Technical Services Partner’.
BRPL will advise Rockson in the pre-bidding phase by extending support for technical due diligence, bid preparation and submission for the three discoms — Ikeja, Port Harcourt and Benin _ which are being privatised by the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Nigeria.
Besides international exposure, this association will also help BRPL generate non-tariff income as mandated by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), an exercise which will ultimately benefit customers.
Whatever revenue is generated will help reduce the aggregate revenue requirement (ARR) and positively impact on reducing the tariff burden of consumers.
When the Nigerian Government decided to turnaround the country’s power sector, a consortium of international consultants appointed by them scanned the power sector globally looking for turnaround stories of struggling utilities through privatisation-led reforms.
For the power distribution segment, they zeroed in on the Delhi model, which will now be adopted for distribution reforms in Nigeria — a fact that has been documented by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.
