Pharma major Dr Reddy’s Laboratories has initiated recall of five lots of Ranitidine Hydrochloride tablets from the US market.

The over-the-counter drug, indicated for treatment of gastric disorders, was being recalled voluntarily due to microbial contamination of non-sterile products, according to a US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) notification.

When contacted, a spokesperson of the Hyderabad-based company told

Business Line that the financial impact of recall was ``minimal’’ as it was limited to only five lots.

It was a private label drug which was being sold by Walmart and some others under different brands including Equate.

Dr Reddy’s scrip gained 3.19 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Thursday to close at Rs 2,110.40.
