The Dunlop management on Friday decided to reopen the Sahagunj unit in Hooghly, West Bengal in a phase-wise manner.
Suspension of work notice will be withdrawn starting with the Industrial Product (IP) section after power connections are restored in the unit.
“We have applied to the West Bengal State Electricity Board today for resumption of power in the IP unit. Reopening of the unit will be done provided power is restored and labour unions are okay with the decision,’’ Mr Pawan Ruia, Group Chairman, said.
According to Mr Ruia, employees of the IP section will be inducted first by the management. He also added that other sections like OTR tyres will be reopened in a later stage.
“Employee salaries will not be paid during the period of suspension of work,’’ he said.
The Dunlop management would also assess the amount of loss incurred by the company as well as appoint an independent consultant for a study on the number of employees required and viability of the IP and OTR units.
He further added that tyre production in Sahagunj unit will not start till the proposed power plant comes up.
