The Sahaganj plant of Dunlop India Ltd was re-opened on Thursday following a tripartite agreement between the management, workers’ unions and the State Labour Department. Pawan Ruia, Chairman, Ruia Group, State Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and Labour Minister Malay Ghatak were present at the re-opening. According to a company release, a primary assessment of the plant’s condition makes resumption of operations a challenging task. “However, every effort will be taken to resume production early. It will start with industrial products, followed by OTR (off-the-road) and other tyres,” the release said. A committee comprising of representatives of West Bengal government, the workers’ unions and Dunlop’s management has been formed to work out productivity norms.
