India and Israel will work jointly to sharpen their expertise in the application of ground surveillance radar systems.
An intent to do this was signed between Electronics Corporation of India Ltd and a leading Israeli conglomerate Elbit Systems at the recently concluded Defence Expo-2014 in New Delhi.
Portable and flexible ground surveillance radars offer unique properties that provide the armed forces, special operations and security personnel with integrated, real-time tactical surveillance, intelligence gathering and target detection features.
They can also help in the classification and identification of human and/or vehicles operating in the area of interest, a press release from the Hyderabad-based ECIL said.
The primary focus of the joint work would be in developing border protection systems, protection of sensitive sites, and battlefield surveillance. The deal was inked by the Chairman and Managing Director of ECIL, P. Sudhakar, and Irmin Mensher, Vice-President of Elbit Systems.
