Essar Power expects to commission the second 600 MW unit of the Mahan I project this fiscal, taking its overall installed generation capacity to over 4,500 MW.
The private power utility, part of the diversified Essar Group, has an installed generation capacity of 3,910 MW.
Essar Energy’s Chief Executive Officer Sushil Maroo said that about 1,800 MW capacity is being set up.
“We expect to add 600 MW capacity this fiscal by commissioning the second unit of Mahan I project,” he told PTI here. Essar Power is part of Essar Energy.
The 1,200-MW Mahan I plant is located in Madhya Pradesh and the first unit was commissioned in April 2013. Once the plant becomes fully operational, the company’s total generation capacity would cross 4,500 MW.
On capacity addition, Maroo said the remaining 1,200 MW under execution is likely to come up in the next two years.
According to him, there are no immediate diversification plans with regard to power business.
At present, Essar Power has eight operational plants having more than 3,900 MW capacity. Seven are in India, while one is in Canada.
