Essar Steel bags 2 overseas orders worth Rs 400 cr

Essar Steel today said it has received two major overseas orders worth Rs 400 crore for manufacturing specialised pipes, taking the total order book of its pipe mill to about Rs 1,000 crore.

The company “has received two sizeable orders from Middle East and Africa for the manufacturing of API (American Petroleum Institute) grade steel pipes worth Rs 400 crore. This takes the total order book of the pipe mill to approximately Rs 1,000 crore indicating strong order inflows,” it said in a statement.

The contract in Africa pertains to construction of 4,000 tonnes of offshore line pipe application which will be used in a Chevron project.

The company said the order from West Asia is for the supply of 45,000 tonnes of high grade coated pipes in the coming quarter.

Commenting on the development, MD and CEO, Essar Steel, Dilip Oommen, said: “This is reflection of Essar Steel’s integrated capability to produce world-class pipes. Our aim is to become a preferred supplier of quality steel to all our customers, domestically and globally.’’

The statement said the company’s mill has a capacity to manufacture 6,00,000 tonnes of pipes comprising 2,75,000 tonnes per annum of API-grade HSAW (Helical Submerged Arc Welding) line pipes and 3,25,000 TPM of API-grade LSAW (Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welding) line pipes.

Essar Steel, a 14 million tonnes per annum global producer of steel, has presence in Canada, the US, India and Indonesia.
