Essar Steel has become an approved vendor for supply of high grade pipes and plates to Abu Dhabi gas industries (Gasco). The pipes can withstand risk of corrosion from sour gas, said Essar Steel in a press release on Tuesday.
Essar Steel will supply plates and pipes up to API 5L Gr X65 Sour Service, making it the biggest milestone for the company in West Asia till date. This has opened up the opportunity for securing orders from Gasco, a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Shell, Total and Partex.
With this approval, Essar Steel joins the ranks of few global steel giants and is the only Indian company to have received such approval, said the release.
Essar recently got approvals from Shell Global, ENI, Socar, Occidental-Qatar, Ecopetrol, Pacific Rubials, Fluor and Kvaerner.
In a bid to drive its pipe business, Essar Steel recently appointed HS Bedi as CEO of Pipe Mill. The company’s pipe mill at Hazira in Gujarat has the capability to manufacture 600,000 tonnes of line pipes comprising 275,000 tonnes an annum of API-grade HSAW (Helical Submerged Arc Welding) line pipes.
