Eveready Industries India Ltd on Monday announced a 2 per cent hike in the prices of its batteries passing on the effective excise duty to the consumers. Amritanshu Khaitan, Managing Director, said in a statement that excise duty on batteries went up by 2 per cent from this month. The Government stopped the excise rate relief, earlier allowed for consumer durables, beyond December 31, 2014. “The same quantum (of excise) is now being recovered,” Khaitan said.
