Jeep, the oldest SUV brand in the world, could be soon manufactured in Pune, Maharashtra. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), the owner of the brand, is in talks with the State Government for making the vehicle at its existing facility in Ranjangaon, Pune.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis met CEO of Jeep Brand, Michael Manley, in Detroit, on Tuesday and discussed various investment opportunities in the State.
A press statement issued by the Chief Minister’s office said that by 2018, FCA could double its production capacity to 2.45 lakh vehicles per year.
In Detroit, Fadnavis also met Matthew Hobbs, Vice-President, General Motors, for increasing investments in Maharashtra. The company is inclined to invest in IT technology for product planning in the State, the statement added. The Chief Minister is on a seven-day official visit to the US, where he would be meeting heads of major business corporations.
