Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India today launched its performance brand in India, unveiling the Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione at the Buddh International Circuit. It will be priced at Rs 29.85 lakh, (ex-showroom New Delhi).
FCA India also showcased the new Punto Abarth hatchback, which has a 1.4 litre four-cylinder turbocharged T-Jet engine. It is expected to hit Indian roads soon.
Speaking on the launch, Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India Automobiles Pvt Ltd said, “We are pleased to introduce the iconic Italian brand, Abarth, from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ stable to our customers in India. The flagship model Abarth 595 Competizione, a sports performance coupe, is renowned world over for its performance, style and rich heritage. With this launch, we are hoping to bring this same legacy to our Indian customers and are confident that Abarth would provide a superior driving experience.”
The company will also launch another performance oriented hatchback in the Abarth range, the Punto Abarth, which will bes locally made. “India is a strategic market for us and this is an integral part of our commitment to widen our portfolio and to provide greater value not only to our customers but other stakeholders as well,” Flynn said in a statement.
The 595 Competizione is a 3-door hatchback powered by a 1.4 LT-Jet engine producing 160 PS of power, taking the car from 0-100 in 7.6 seconds and 17-inch alloy wheels. The maximum torque generated is 230 Nm@2750 – 3000 RPM with the top speed estimated to be around 210 kmph.
With the exterior designing inspired from the Fiat 500 Cinquecento, the body is made up of steel and it is a forward wheel drive car. The other features include perforated and ventilated brake discs, a world-class infotainment system, Xenon headlamps, rear parking sensors, and Monza exhaust systems.
The Abarth 595 Competizione will be available in four colours — Iridato White, Scorpione Black, Cordolo Red and Campovolo Grey. The company in its inaugural year will be introducing the 595 Competizione through the CBU route and will be available at select Fiat dealers in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru.
