Fire at M&M Scorpio/Xylo plant in Nashik

A major fire broke out in the early morning hours on Wednesday at the Nashik plant of Mahindra & Mahindra.

The fire in the Satpur plant lasted for five hours from 5:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. No plant employee was injured in the fire, confirmed Satpur Fire Brigade authorities.

“The fire though was contained to within the logistics area of Scorpio unit and within the plant premises. Importantly, there have been no injuries to any company personnel. As a safety measure though, the operations in the plant have been suspended for only the first shift of the day,” said a statement by the company.

"The production loss in the first shift is estimated to be around 250 vehicles," the statement added.

“Mahindra & Mahindra follow the strictest safety protocols and adhere to all safety norms and processes laid down by the relevant Government Authorities,” said the company statement.

The lant assets are adequately covered by insurance. The Management expects to restart the Bolero and Verito lines fully and the Scorpio line partially, from the second shift onwards, the company statement added.

The scrip of Mahindra & Mahindra lost 3.2 per cent to Rs 655 per share on the BSE. The BSE Auto index was down by one per cent. On the NSE, the scrip was down 3.5 per cent to Rs. 652.50 per share. The CNX Auto was down 0.3 per cent.
