Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Monday said it was temporarily suspending production in its factories in Gurgaon and Manesar owing to a fire at the Manesar facilities of its supplier, Subros Ltd on Sunday.
“Supplies of components from that plant have been disrupted. As a consequence, MSIL will have to temporarily suspend manufacture of cars at its facilities in Manesar and Gurgaon, starting second half of Monday (May 30),” the country’s largest passenger cars manufacturer said in a statement. Subros is major supplier of air-conditioning compressors to MSIL. Subros and Maruti Suzuki are jointly assessing the extent of damage to essential equipment, it said.
MSIL produces around 5,000 units a day of cars on an average from its two plants at Gurgaon and Manesar, which together have an annual capacity of around 15 lakh units.
Subros is not only a big supplier of AC components to MSIL, but also to other major companies such as Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors.
However, when asked Tata Motors, the company said there was no major impact as this is not the plant from where Subros supplies to the company.
