The first of two 300 MW coal-based power generation units being set up by GMR Emco Energy at Warora in Chandrapur district near Nagpur has commenced commercial generation of power.

This is its first coal-based power plant to begin generation, and the entire production is committed against power purchase agreements, which have already been signed, the group has said in a filing to the BSE.

The 300 MW unit was synchronised with the grid on December 10, 2012. Power generated from the plant is being evacuated to the Bhadravati sub-station of the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.

Work on commissioning the second 300 MW unit is at an advanced stage and this would be commissioned in the first half of FY14.
