Home-grown automaker Force Motors said on Thursday that its new sports utility vehicle (SUV) to be launched in July will be called 'Force One'.
This will be the first passenger vehicle from the Pune-based company which later plans to bolster its new range with the launch an off-road jeep and a premium van by next year.
“Force One will be launched in the next 30-40 days. It will have best-in-class legroom and reliability," said Mr Prasan Firodia, Managing Director, Force Motors.
He added that in the first year the company would look to sell 4,000 units, while in the second year it is targeting up to 9,000 units.
Force One will be positioned between the entry and mid-range SUVs. Pricing is likely around Rs 12-14 lakhs. The entry segment is marked by the Mahindra Scorpio and the Tata Safari, while the mid range SUVs are the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.
The new SUV features a 2.2 litre diesel engine and transmission licensed from Mercedes-Benz. The chassis has been tuned by Lotus Engineering, UK. Localisation in the vehicle will be at 75 per cent.
