Ford India has reported its strongest-ever growth in year-on-year sales, moving over 1 lakh units during the 2010-11 financial year, after registering a 97 per cent increase for the quarter ended March 2011.

During January-March 2010-11, the company sold 29,804 units, up by 97 per cent against 15,154 units during the same period of the previous year.

“With this accomplishment, production at Ford India has crossed 100,000 units in a single financial year,” the company said in a statement.

Ford India, which introduced its first compact car Figo last year, sold 85,000 units. In March, 10,485 units were sold compared with 9,478 units in the same month last year, it said.

The company recorded 10,485 units sales in March this year, the highest figure so far.

“We are delighted to see our sales figures reaching 10,000-plus twice in the last three months — in January as well as in March 2011 — making this our best-selling financial year ever. We thank all our customers, employees, dealers and suppliers on this achievement,” the Ford India President and Managing Director, Mr Michael Boneham, said.

On exports, the company said sales grew 15 times to touch 4,092 units in the first quarter of 2011 against 280 vehicles sold in the same quarter of last year.

The Figo, currently being exported to South Africa and Nepal, will also be exported to Mexico from this month, it said.

Ford India said it would bring in new premium sedan Fiesta in the domestic market later this year, the first step in its move to introduce eight models by the middle of this decade.

The company currently retails premium SUV Endeavour, the old Fiesta and Figo. It has a manufacturing facility at Maraimalai Nagar near Chennai. It has 170 dealers across India.
