Ford India is recalling 16,444 EcoSport SUVs made at its Chennai factory between November 2013 and April 2014.
It is a voluntary recall for a possible issue relating to inadequate tightening of the rear twist beam bolt.
The company said in a statement it is writing to 16,444 EcoSport customers to get their vehicles inspected at a Ford dealership. .
In some of the affected vehicles, there is a possibility that the rear twist beam bolt may not be tightened to specification, which may cause the pivot bolt to break.
This condition can potentially compromise vehicle handling and thereby increase the risk of an accident.
This is a voluntary action and no accidents related to the concern have been reported, the automobile manufacturer said in the release.
