Tata Sons has roped in former Ambassador of India to the US, Ronen Sen, as a Non-Executive Independent Director. Sen was India’s Ambassador in Washington from 2004 to 2009. He has also served on the Board of Tata Motors Ltd from 2010 to 2012.

Farida Khambata, Member – Investment Committee of Cartica and former member of IFC’s Management Group, has also been appointed as a Director. In her last position at IFC, Khambata oversaw all equity investments globally, specifically in agribusiness, manufacturing and services and health and education.

Tata Sons has had a tradition of appointing distinguished personalities as independent directors. Earlier, it had appointed Nitin Nohria, dean of Harvard Business School and Vijay Singh, former defence secretary as independent directors. BG Deshmukh, former Cabinet Secretary and India’s first Railways Minister John Mathai, are the other big names to have joined Tata Sons Board in the past.

Sen has also been India’s Ambassador to Mexico (1991-92), to the Russian Federation (1992-98), and the Federal Republic of Germany (1998-2002), and served as High Commissioner to the UK (2002-04).
