Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (GACL) on Thursday reported an increase of 34.38 per cent in net profit and 19.32 per cent in sales in the financial year 2011-12, ended March 31, 2012, compared with the corresponding period last fiscal. While sales were Rs 1698.22 crore (Rs 1423.17 crore), net profit stood at Rs 153.61 crore (Rs 114.31 crore), mainly due to price realization, according to a company statement here. Mr M.S. Dagur, Managing Director, said in the company's net sales in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2012, were up 5.5 per cent at Rs 422.12 crore (Rs 400.72 crore), but net profit was down 21.42 per cent at Rs 44.21 crore (Rs 55.99 crore). On Thursday, GACL's share price on the BSE closed 1.66 per cent up at Rs 122.20.
