Gayatri Projects Ltd has made a foray into the fast-growing railway EPC sector by winning a Rs 4,744-crore contract for designing and building the Iqbalgarh-Vadodara section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFCC) in a consortium with Sojitz Corporation of Japan and construction major L&T Ltd.
The project mandate is for design and construction of civil, building and track works for double line railway involving formation in embankments/cuttings, bridges, structures along with works relating to bridges across rivers of Mahi and Sabramati.
The order includes testing and commissioning on design, build on lump sum price basis in the Iqbalgarh-Vadodara section of Western Dedicated Freight Corridor Phase I.
The company has partnered with Sojitz Corporation, a Japanese conglomerate and L&T for the project.
The DFCC is one of the country’s most ambitious infrastructure projects and promises to transform the business landscape of the country and also expected to play a key role in India’s manufacturing and industrial aspirations. It is also one of the largest EPC opportunities in the country similar to the Golden Quadrilateral Highway project offered in the 2000s.
The Western DFCC will connect Mumbai and Delhi, a distance of 1483 km and the Iqbalgarh-Vadodara section is around 304 km log.
The Hyderabad-based company, which is mainly into road and other construction segments of infrastructure, is making its entry into rail infrastructure development with this project.
