After announcing its intentions to hike milk prices for various markets in the country, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) is set to make the price-hike effective from March 4for the Gujarat market.
GCMMF, which sells milk and milk products under the brand name of Amul, has increased the pouch milk prices by Rs 2 per litre. “We are increasing the milk prices in Gujarat from tomorrow by Rs 2 per litre for all variants in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Anand, Godhra and Saurashtra,” R S Sodhi, MD, GCMMF informed.
The last price hike was announced in June 2016 for Delhi and Gujarat markets.
According to GCMMF, the cost of production for the farmers has gone up by more than 20 per cent since 2014 and inflation is also hurting the cost of living for farmers. The feed cost including green fodder has gone up in the range of 20-25 per cent.
Notably, other leading dairy players across the country have also decided to follow the suit. Amid slowing milk procurement due to summer heat and surging demand for the milk, dairies are seen heading to increase the milk prices. Leading dairy in Telangana, Karimnagar Milk Producers Company Ltd (Karimnagar Dairy) had already increased the milk procurement as well as retail prices from March 1 and 2.
