GE and L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Ltd have entered into an exclusive memorandum of understanding for manufacturing of sub-sea manifolds (pipelines) which would be used for future deepwater projects in the Krishna-Godavari basin on the east coast of India.

This was announced by the two companies in a statement on Wednesday, which also claimed that the partnership will be the first time that sub-sea equipment is being manufactured in India.

The manufacturing will take place at L&T’s modular fabrication unit in Tamil Nadu and will have an annual capacity of 50,000 tonne.

“The plant is equipped with advanced welding and fabrication capabilities along with a 150 metre jetty making it an ideal location to manufacture advanced hardware for the seabed,” the statement added.

“Our strategic partnership with L&T has opened new avenues for us to manufacture highly advanced equipment to serve the needs of India’s oil and gas sector as well as the broader, global industry,” said Ashish Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer of GE Oil & Gas, South Asia.

Apart from the MoU for sub-sea manifolds, L&T Infotech also joined the GE Digital Alliance Program. The GE Digital Alliance Program is a partnership where organisations collaborate to develop digital industrial solutions powered by GE’s Predix operating system for the industrial internet.

L&T Infotech will work together with GE to leverage analytics and real-time insights to enhance competitiveness and transform the way companies manage their assets and workforce.
