Rexam, a global beverage can manufacturer, has secured land in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh and in Mahindra World City, Jaipur to build two more plants. The company has an existing plant in Mumbai.

Each plant represents an initial investment of close to £50 million and will add a total production capacity of nearly 1.6 billion cans, according to a press release from the UK based multinational.

The proposed plant in Sri City, which is 55 kms from Chennai is expected to be operational by the second half of 2016. It will be followed by the plant in Jaipur. The two plants will create around 150 new jobs in each of their local communities.

Craig Jones, Sector Director Rexam AMEA, commented: "These investments will support and enable us to take advantage of the continued growth of the beverage can in India. Having plants in different locations across the country will ensure we have a better footprint and position to meet the needs of our customers in the region over the long term."

Rexam is a business partner to some of the world’s most famous and successful consumer brands.
