General Motors India on Monday launched Sail sedan in Hyderabad and outlined plans to launch a few more models during the year, including its compact multi-purpose vehicle Enjoy by March. The American carmaker said it had managed to bring about 80 per cent localisation for Sail U-VA and Sail sedan and Enjoy. This has enabled the company to price them aggressively in the domestic market. It has high expectation from the small sedan segment, which accounts for sale of about 40,000 cars a month in the country and growing at over 40 per cent in the last three years. “Both the petrol and turbo diesel engines for the cars have been made at the company’s Talegaon plant in Maharashtra. With the manufacture of these engines and several other components, we have managed to increase the level of localisation in the country,” said Sastry Vempati, Vice-President. Addressing a press conference here, he said that the company will follow this launch with MPV Enjoy. The design centre based in Bangalore has played a critical role in the development and localisation of the car.
