GMR Rajahmundry Energy Ltd, part of infrastructure major GMR Group, synchronised the first unit of the combined cycle power plant it is setting up at Vemagiri in Andhra Pradesh, adding 384 MW of capacity to the State grid.
GMR is setting up a 2x384 MW plant at Vemagiri. The first unit has been completed in 24 months. The company expects the second unit to go on stream by February. It also expects that gas will be made available to it shortly.
Another group company, GMR Kamalanga Energy Ltd, executed an agreement for supply of 260 MW of power to the Bihar State Electricity Board. The company is now executing a 1,050-MW coal-based plant at Kamalanga in Orissa.
