Goldstone Infratech Ltd has announced its move to assemble electric buses in partnership with BYD Company Ltd, based in China.
The Hyderabad-based company has bagged its maiden order for supply of six pure electric buses to the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST), Mumbai.
Goldstone plans to assemble these buses in India in tie-up with BYD Auto Industry Co Ltd of China, with the bus body to be fully built in India.
BYD Company Ltd, the parent company of BYD Auto, is a public listed company and is ranked among the top 500 Chinese enterprises specialising in IT, automobiles, new energy and light rail.
Under the partnership, Goldstone and BYD have completed trials of a midi electric bus in the Manali-Rahtang pass. For the first time an electric bus was driven at an altitude of over 13,000 ft and at a steep gradient, according L.P. Sashikumar, Managing Director, Goldstone Infratech.
BEST proposes to run electric buses in Mumbai as they are environment friendly and reduce sound and air pollution. These electric buses can run for 180 km on a single charge.
As a publicly listed entity, Goldstone is a manufacturer of Silicon Rubber Insulators for power transmission and distribution networks and supply to large transmission and distribution companies, railways and metro rails in India and abroad. It has developed and supplies 800kV HVDC Silicone Rubber Insulators.
