Google contest for professors, students

Online search and marketing company Google has opened an exclusive competition for professors and their students, asking them to write a creative advertising campaign using Google AdWords application for real businesses or non-governmental organisations.

In the first phase, it allows professors from across the world to register for the competition. Student registration would join the fray only on January 31. But the catch is, they can join only if their professors are game for Google Online Marketing Challenge (GOMC).

The global competition attracted over 50,000 participants from 100 countries.

“Professors sign up for the contest and then serve as guides and mentors to their student participants throughout the competition. Over the course of three weeks, student teams are tasked with developing and running a successful online advertising campaign for real businesses,” a Google executive said.

After running their online advertising campaign for three weeks, participating teams would come up with a report comprising their experiences. A GOMC team a panel of independent academics would select the winner. The global winner will be taken to Google’s headquarters in Mountain View (California, the US).

The regional winners will be taken to local Google offices.
