Twenty-one companies were awarded GreenCo Rating at CII GreenCo Summit 2015 in Mumbai.
As India is seen to emerge as a major player in Green Business, over 1,000 GreenCo rated companies are expected to save up to Rs 2,000 Cr by the year 2017.
According to CII, ‘GreenCo’ rating system is emerging as a strong brand and CII GreenCo Rating System, the first of its kind in the world, is being adopted by manufacturing and services sector companies.
As of today, India has 48 GreenCo rated companies and over 140 companies are working on this Rating. CII estimates that 1,000 companies would go the GreenCo way by year 2017 and would help save about Rs 2,000 crore, apart from gaining other tangible and intangible benefits.
At the inaugural session of CII GreenCo Summit 2015, Jamshyd N Godrej, Chairman, CII-Godrej GBC said Indian Industry is in the forefront in adopting ecologically superior and economically viable business growth models. It is heartening to witness how Indian industry is looking beyond compliance and achieving global excellence, he added.
Prem C Jain, Chairman, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), said India has crossed the 3 billion sq.ft mark of registered green building footprint.
