GRL International has launched “Trax-Rx Speed”, a premium bicycle with a Shimano gear system that boasts an 18-speed grip shifter. It has an alloy rim with nylon tyres, disc brake system, quick release seat bolt and a suspension system on the frame and fork. The 18-speed bicycle is priced at Rs 8,000 and is also available in single speed at Rs 5,500.

The company has also introduced ‘Trax-Cyclops’, a speed bicycle which comes with a price tag of Rs 4,000. For the first time in the Indian bicycle industry, Trax bicycles will have 50 servicing locations spread across the country. The company has a 6,000-dealer network across India.

GRL Chairman Vinod M. Poddar said the company plans to expand the manufacturing capacity at the Ludhiana plant from 25,000 bicycles a month to one lakh by March 2013. The company will invest Rs 30 crore for its expansion plan in Ludhiana.

The company also plans to set up a greenfield project at Dahej in Gujarat, at a capital outlay of Rs 750 crore. For this it has acquired 64 acres of land and construction will commence from March 2013.

The plant is expected to have a trial run by September 2014. The Dahej plant will have a manufacturing capacity of 3 lakh bicycles a month, Poddar said. A subsidiary of BSE-listed Govind Rubber, GRL International manufactures 35 bicycle models.
