The International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) is looking to delve into the human immunome under its Human Vaccines Project to develop better vaccines.

The non-profit organisation has received a grant of $350,000 from GSK towards this project.

IAVI hopes to develop effective vaccines against major diseases such as Ebola, AIDS, cancer and others by studying and deciphering the ‘human immunome’ or the genes and proteins associated with the immune system.

Rajat Goyal, Country Director (India) for IAVI, said, “If we have to make better products, we have to understand the human immunology better.”

With GSK becoming the first corporate partner for the Human Vaccine Project, IAVI also hopes to rope in more industry partners in India.
