GTN Industries Group, a cotton yarn to apparel company, today announced plans to invest Rs 20 crore for its new mercerised cotton garments facility near here to support its growth strategy.

“Having already invested about Rs 35 crore to augment capacities, we are now looking at investing to strengthen Cotstyle brand by carving out Cotstyle Apparels Ltd, whose focus would be on local niche T-shirt market,” Mr M. K. Patodia, Chairman and Managing Director of GTN Industries Group, said.

Addressing a press conference, he said the company has a capacity of 90,000 spindles spread across Hyderabad and Nagpur. It has a yarn mercerising unit in Shadnagar, a fabric processing unit at Indiranagar, knitting facilities at Ishnapur and a garment unit close to Hyderabad. It is now looking at a bigger role for the Cotstyle brand.

Cotstyle Apparels markets Cotstyle single fibre brand and double mercerised Polo shirts and formal dress socks in more than 750 stores spread across major cities. The company plans to develop a chain of branded stores in some select cities by next year while increasing the stores from 750 to 1,200.

“Made out of high quality Egyptian Giza and American Pima cotton, these T-shirts are priced Rs 1,200-2,500. Apart from some export supplies and to brands such as Nike, we are now concentrating on the Indian market,” Mr Patodia said.

“Few years ago when we launched double mercerised cotton T-shirts, we were definitely ahead of times. We believe this is the right time to be in with such a product range. Apart from consumption by golfers, not much of it is used in other sports,” he said.
