The Gujarat Government has filed a contempt petition against central gas utility, Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL), for supplying lesser gas than promised.
The company has violated the Gujarat High Court directions, according to Gujarat Minister Saurabh Patel.
In a statement issued on Friday, Patel informed that as per the agreement between GAIL and state-run Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation, the former had promised continued supply of total 0.5837 million metric standard cubic meters per day (mmscmd) gas from its Dahej delivery point, while the company is supplying 0.5318 mmscmd of gas or 9 per cent lesser gas than promised.
The minister further noted that GAIL has been supplying lesser quantity of cheaper APM gas and higher quantity of costlier PMT gas.
It has been supplying 0.4389 mmscmd of APM gas (at $4.2 per barrel) against the promised 0.5132 mmscmd. But it is supplying 0.929 mmscmd of costlier PMT gas (at $5.70 per barrel) against the promised 0.0705 mmscmd.
