The Ministry of Environment and Forests gave a green signal to Ratle Hydro Electric Project Pvt Ltd, a GVK Group company, to increase the capacity of its power project from 690 MW to 850 MW.
Ratle Hydro Electric Project, which is constructing the project on Chenab River in Kishwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, is expected to start operations in 2017 and it will provide 16 per cent of its output to Jammu and Kashmir free of any charge.
“After a detailed deliberation, the Committee recommended approval for revision of capacity from 690 MW to 850 MW for the project,” the MoEF said in its Web site.
“It was suggested that a comparison of muck generated and to be disposed off for 690 MW and 850 MW may be submitted to the Ministry,” it said further.
GVK earlier informed the MoEF that the necessity of revision of installed capacity was mainly due to the revised water flow series approved by the Central Water Commission.
Shares of GVK Power and Infrastructure were trading at Rs 16.10 on the Bombay Stock Exchange today.
