Infrastructure major GVK Group will add 6800 MW power to its existing capacity at an investment of Rs 40,000 crore, a top executive of the GVK Power said on Friday.
According to Mr Krishna Ram Bhupal, Managing Director, GVK Power, the company will go for expansion of two existing gas—based units by 800 MW each and two new greenfield projects of 2640 MW each in Andhra Pradesh.
“The new projects will be gas—based and coal—based in Andhra Pradesh. For coal—based plants, we are going for two plants of 660X4 MW and looking to make them operational by 2017,” Mr Bhupal told media persons on the sidelines of Partnership Summit—2012.
“We are looking for coal supply for the projects and we are also in the process of identifying land,” Mr Bhupal added.
Replying to a query he said the company may import coal from Hancock Coal mines in Australia which the Group acquired last year.
