American performance motorcycle maker Harley Davidson on Thursday launched the Forty-Eight Special motorcycle at ₹10.98 lakh (ex-showroom), as the company looks to consolidate its presence in the 700 cc-plus segment. The company also launched the 2019 model of its Street Glide Special cruiser, priced at ₹30.53 lakh (ex-showroom). The Forty-Eight Special is powered by a 1,200 cc V-Twin engine and comes with Tallboy handlebars. The Street Glide gets a 1,868 cc engine.

Sajeev Rajasekharan, Managing Director, Harley Davidson India, said there will be another launch from the company in the 1600 cc-plus segment this year.

The company will also add two more dealers to its existing network of 31 across the country and add three more lifestyle stores, taking their total number to 10. “In total, we will have 43 touchpoints in India by the end of the year,” Rajasekharan told BusinessLine .

Harley Davidson is also working on electric motorcycles. Rajasekharan said it wants to be a leader in the big-bike EV space. “We will start with our (electric bike) launch in the US and Europe and as and when the rest of the other countries are prepared in terms of infrastructure, the company would go in there one-by-one,” he said.
