Hero MotoCorp on Monday introduced revamped models of its Maestro and Pleasure scooters — the Maestro Edge 125 and the Pleasure+ 110 — to strengthen its presence in the 125-cc premium scooters category. The Maestro Edge 125 is India’s first scooter with fuel injection technology, Hero Motocorp said.
Sanjay Bhan, Head of Sales, Hero Motocorp, told BusinessLine that the company wants to build a presence in the segment as it is the fastest growing segment. “There is an aspiration that is building within scooter owners to perhaps make the big move towards a higher capacity engine,” Bhan said.
But the company will not lose focus on the 100-110 cc category, which is almost 70 per cent of the market. The new Pleasure 110 scooter will replace the existing Pleasure brand in the next four to five months, he added.

The Maestro Edge 125 follows the Destiny 125, launched last year. Bhan said that the Destiny is doing well. “We continue to believe there is a lot more that the product can deliver and we will continue to build this brand strongly,” he said.
Other players such as Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India and TVS have had products in the 125-cc range for a while now and Bhan admitted that Hero may have been slightly late to the party. “We would have been happier if we were there three years ago. But that’s okay,” he said. He attributed Hero’s loss in market share in scooters in FY19 to “stock correction”.
BS VI emission norms
With the Bharat Stage VI (BS VI) emission norms less than a year away from kicking in, the company is preparing for the transition, he said.
“Every single model that we currently have in our range is moving to BS VI and that is going to start very soon,” Bhan said.
Fuel Injection technology refers to the air-fuel mix being sprayed directly into the combustion chamber.
