Hindustan Motors Ltd has shown growth in sales of Ambassador and Pajero Sport in March against the corresponding month last year.

It sold 631 units of Ambassador last month, up from 418, HML has said in a statement. The CK Birla group vehicle manufacturer recorded Pajero Sport sales at 225 units (178 units) in the domestic market.

As a result of change in sales gear, total monthly sales of passenger cars moved up to 856 units from 687 units in March 2012. This is despite absence of production and sale of five other brands of the company last month. Its light commercial vehicle Winner, however, registered a marginal monthly domestic sales growth at 32 (28).

HML has not been producing Lancer, Lancer Cedia, Pajero, Outlander and Montero of late.

The March sales numbers also could indicate better financial performance from HML in January-March quarter, said an auto analyst. In January and February this year, HML sold 727 and 814 passengers cars, respectively. The monthly domestic sales figures marked sequential as well as year-on-year improvement. Light commercial vehicles sales also grew to 65 (39) units in the past three months.

In October-December quarter of 2012-13, it had reported a net profit of Rs 20.36 crore against a net loss of Rs 42.81 crore in the corresponding quarter in the previous fiscal.
