Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) today said it has started production at the second assembly line of Karnataka plant with the rolling out of its popular gearless scooter Activa.
In June, the company had started production of 110 cc mass motorcycle Dream Yuga at the first line of the manufacturing facility located at Narsapura, which is its third plant in India.
“With this speedy ramp up, Honda has started production at the second line of the third plant,” HMSI said in a statement.
The plant has an initial production capacity of 12 lakh units and an additional increase of 6 lakh units will take annual capacity of third plant to 18 lakh units by the end of this fiscal, it added.
HMSI President and CEO, Keita Muramatsu said: “It’s a happy moment for us as our new plant in Karnataka has begun rolling out our most popular selling scooter Activa from the second line.”
With this, Honda will significantly increase its cumulative annual production capacity by 64 per cent in just one fiscal — from 28 lakh units in FY 2013 to 46 lakh units in FY 2014, the company said.
