Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) has recorded a 20 per cent growth during July 2013 compared to the same period last year.
The Japanese two-wheeler company sold 2.87 lakh units, including 1.48 lakh motorcycles, during the month under review against 2.52 lakh units in the same month last year. Motorcycle segment grew 35 per cent, while scooters division grew 8 per cent.
With Bajaj Auto posting total sales of 2.81 lakh units in July, HMSI has now gained the No. 2 spot among two-wheelers for the first time. Its domestic market share currently stands at 24 per cent, the company said.
The second assembly line of first phase has started rolling the Activa in Narsapura, Karnataka.
Y.S. Guleria, Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, HMSI, said: “Honda created a new chapter in its Indian operations with three new records in July 2013. It achieved highest-ever sales, highest domestic market share of 24 per cent and also became 2nd largest player in the domestic and export sales in two-wheeler industry. This is largely attributed to the overwhelming demand for Dream series and the increase in production with the start of second production line at the third factory in Karnataka.”
