Premium car manufacturer Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) has posted a 188 per cent rise in vehicles sales at 15,714 units in January, riding on the success of the newly-launched Honda City.
This is highest-ever monthly sales for the company. HCIL had sold 5,451 vehicles during the same month a year ago.
The sales reflect a strong growth over the past few months attributed to the “enormous” consumer response to the Honda Amaze and the all new Honda City, it said in a statement.
“We have started the year on a positive note. We have received an overwhelming response to all new Honda City and the Honda Amaze continues to do strong sales,” said Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President – Marketing & Sales at HCIL.
HCIL also exported 88 units in January.
The company also sold 1 lakh units sales for the first time during the current financial year. It sold 1,01,370 units during April 2013 to January 2014 period, posting a 78 per cent growth. The company’s sales for the corresponding period last year stood at 56,929 units.
