Honda Cars India Limited on Friday said it will invest Rs 380 crore in its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan to expand the annual production capacity from the current 1.20 lakh units per annum to 1.80 lakh units per year.
The additional capacity is scheduled to be ready by middle of 2016, the company said in a statement. It added that this capacity expansion will generate fresh employment of about 600 people in Tapukara plant.
"This expansion of the second plant will increase HCIL’s overall annual production capacity from the current 2.40 lakh units to three-lakh units including the 1.20 lakh-unit capacity of the first plant in Greater Noida," it said.
HCIL has witnessed 44 per cent growth in its domestic sales during April 2014 – February with 166,366 units as against 115,913 units in the corresponding period in 2013 -14.
The Tapukara plant started assembly operations in February last year with annual production capacity of 1.20 lakh units.
The plant integrates various functions including operations for forging, casting, stamping, powertrain components production, welding, painting, resin molding, engine assembly, and frame assembly as well as an engine testing facility.
