Japanese auto major Honda today launched its flagship model Honda Accord hybrid in India priced at ₹37 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

India is the sixth country globally where Honda has launched the Accord Hybrid since its debut earlier this year. “It is always our endeavour to offer Honda’s latest technology and products to Indian customers and the introduction of the Accord Hybrid is in line with our commitment,” Yoichiro Ueno, President and Chief Executive Officer, Honda Cars India, told reporters here.

However, looking at the pricing structure, he said the company expects ‘few 100 units’ sales from this model. The company has shipped 30 units, as per the bookings, Ueno added.

Honda will sell the Accord Hybrid as a completely built unit (CBU) and customers will get tax benefits as per various government schemes.

The company said the new Honda Accord Hybrid is the most refined, technologically sophisticated, uniquely stylish and the most fuel efficient hybrid model in its segment.

The Honda Accord is equipped with Honda’s two motor hybrid system-Sport Hybrid Intelligent Multi Mode Drive (i-MMD) combined with an ultra-efficient 2-Litre i-VTEC Atkinson Cycle engine. The 2-Litre engine combined with two electric motors. It has a fuel economy of 23.1 km per litre.

A Power Control Unit (PCU) with high power output density, a compact and light1.3 kilowatt-hour (kWh) high output Lithium-Ion battery and Electric Servo Brakes with high regeneration efficiency, are also some of the technologies accompanied in the latest car.

Ueno said Honda has more hybrid cars, in the small cars segments too, globally, and it can bring them in India too, if government has stronger plans towards hybrids and electric vehicles.

“Hybrid is the technology for future...we are ready to harmonise the need for human mobility and taking care of the environment. We would like to work with the government,” he said adding that the company is confident with its products and even ready to invest in its factory for assembling such cars.
