Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India on Wednesday said it was developing a Made-in-India two-wheeler that will be launched within a year.

A joint team of 200 engineers from the company and Honda Research and Development India was working on developing the product, the company said.

“Yes, there is work going on to produce a 100 per cent locally developed product in India,” Keita Muramatsu, President and Chief Executive Officer, HMSI, told reporters here. However, he did not disclose whether the new product would be a scooter or motorcycle.

The product is being developed at the company’s technical centre at Manesar, where it has an integrated system of design, engineering, purchasing and quality under one roof, said Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Vice-President – Sales and Marketing. The centre was opened in January as part of the company’s strategy to spearhead its global innovation from India.

Meanwhile, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India launched a new gearless scooter, Activa–I, priced at Rs 44,200 (ex-showroom Delhi), powered by 110cc engine, which will be available in the market by the end of the month.

The new scooter has been developed for comfort and convenience with features including combi-brake system (which reduces braking distance by 24 per cent compared with conventional brakes), tubeless tyres and maintenance-free battery.
