As part of a global recall by Honda Motor Company, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) on Friday said it is voluntarily recalling 13,700 units of CBR 150R and CBR 250R models manufactured between July 2014 and June this year in India.
Sold under the premium category, the CBR 150R is priced at ₹1.25 lakh and the CBR 250R is priced between ₹1.59 lakh and ₹1.90 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi).
The recall process will start soon as a precautionary measure to check and replace a starter relay switch if it belongs to the defective lot, the company said in a statement.
“It is suspected, sealant may have been applied incorrectly during assembly of the starter relay switch (which is a globally sourced part). This can increase resistance across main fuse, potentially interrupting the motorcycle’s battery voltage to the electrical system,” it said.
An interruption of the electrical system battery voltage could cause the engine to not start or stall while riding. In an extreme case, the increased resistance at the main fuse could cause the starter relay to catch fire.
“However, no such incident has been reported in any HMSI manufactured vehicle in India,” HMSI said. The part will be replaced free of cost in the identified units irrespective of the warranty status of the vehicle across all-India Honda Network. The company will also send out proactive communication to the identified customers and shall undertake work ensuring no inconvenience, it added.
