Japanese auto major Honda Motor Company has said it will wait for policy clarity before launching an electric car.

The company is launching an e-vehicle in China later this year and in Europe early next year, but for India, it is waiting for clear regulation.

“In order to stitch up a strategy for the EV segment, we are requesting a roadmap regarding plans of charging stations. Without a clear policy, it will be difficult to select models,” Yoichiro Ueno, President and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), told reporters here.

He said the establishment of charging infrastructure is the biggest challenge in the EV space in India right now, and for a big country like this, a combination of various kind of electrified vehicles — including photo electric and plug-in hybrids — would be beneficial.

As part of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Ueno said the company is also requesting the government to reduce the tax difference between small and big cars so that it can bring in more models.

Meanwhile, HCIL said it will launch six models from its global line-up over the next three years. It also unveiled the new Amaze, its compact sedan, to be launched early next financial year.

This is the world premier of the second generation Amaze that has bold exterior styling, spacious premium interiors, better driving performance and latest safety technologies, it said. The premium car maker also unveiled the fifth generation CR-V and the much awaited 10th generation Honda Civic, which will make a comeback to the Indian market. Both will be launched in India next year.
