The toll in the HPCL Visakha refinery accident rose to 27 on Wednesday, with one more contract worker succumbing to burn injuries, according to a press release.
Ananta Gaud (27), undergoing treatment at the National Burns Centre, Mumbai, succumbed to injuries. Of the 27 workers who died in the accident, one was an employee of the HPCL and the rest were contract workers. The HPCL has so far handed over compensation amount of Rs 5 crore to the district collector through cheques. The compensation amount of Rs 20 lakhs for Ananta Gaud will also be handed over to the collector.
Currently, seven workers are undergoing treatment here in different private hospitals and six are at the National Burns Centre, Mumbai. The condition of the 6 in Mumbai is reported to be stable.
