Cooling storage solutions provider Ice Make Refrigeration Ltd has launched a solar-powered cold storage unit for far-flung interior areas, where adequate storage temperature and infrastructure is not available amid irregular power supply.
The company's eco-friendly and energy-efficient solar cold room is a low-cost solution to manage storage temperature in rural areas.
Chandrakant P. Patel, CMD, Ice Make Refrigeration, said: "Ice Make has successfully developed its first portable solar-based cold storage room with in-house technology, design and capability. Customised for the rural and semi urban requirements, the product is economically viable and beneficial for the farmers and other users in the supply chain."
The cold room unit with a storage space of about 4-5 tonne costs around Rs 11-12 lakh. The shelf life of the solar cold storage room is around 7-10 years.
"Even if the conventional cold storage cost around 30-40 per cent less, it requires grid power which comprises around 30 per cent of their running cost. Solar cold storage reduces this cost,” he said.
