ICVL to tie-up with Virginia for coal mining

International Coal Ventures Ltd (ICVL), a joint venture floated by public sector firms such as SAIL and NMDC to acquire overseas coal assets, will forge a strategic relationship with the Commonwealth of Virginia, US.

The SAIL Chairman, Mr C.S. Verma, who currently leads ICVL, held discussions with a delegation led by Mr Robert F. McDonnell, Governor of Commonwealth of Virginia on Monday for facilitating acquisition of coking coal assets and companies for ICVL. Mr McDonnell assured his support in providing ICVL with requisite geological information and in identification of coking coal assets and mines.

Also the discussions focused on facilitating business between ICVL and small and medium mining companies in Virginia by forming joint ventures, besides exploring opportunities for greenfield locations, SAIL said in a statement. In order to facilitate Indian investment in Virginia, an office has been opened by the State in Mumbai.
