Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) on Thursday unveiled two concept models — Ignis and Baleno RS — at Auto Expo 2016. These will be launched in the festival season, the company said, adding that they will appeal to the third generation Maruti Suzuki customers.

“The production models of both will be launched in the Nexa channel and will reinforce our commitment toward constantly introducing aspirational cars that offer a new premium experience,” said Kenichi Ayukawa, MD and CEO of MSIL.

With these two cars, the Nexa channel will sell four vehicles by the end of this year, including the S-Cross and Baleno.

“Using the latest and innovative technologies, we aim to meet the design and performance criteria of customers who are seeking vehicles that are friendly to the environment and society,” Ayukawa added.

The concept Baleno RS is a sporty version of the premium hatchback that was launched recently. The new 1-litre Boosterjet direct injection turbo engine will offer better drive feel, while the external styling is more edgy and sporty, the firm said.

New-gen platform Similarly, the Ignis is a smart compact urban vehicle built on a new-generation platform. It is dynamic and appealing with a bold and unconventional design and high ground clearance, the company said.

MSIL also showcased the S-Cross limited edition in its newest avatar, which now comes with features such as chrome back door garnish, rear-end spoiler in black paint finish, sporty pedal pad and foot well lamp with blue (ambient) light.

The company also unveiled the 1-litre Boosterjet direct injection turbo engine that it says will deliver better power, torque and road speed.
