Curious whether your favourite IPL T-20 cricket match will be disrupted due to adverse weather conditions?
Don’t worry. Just log on to the website of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and get complete details of the weather conditions during the match time.
The IMD has launched a special nowcast section at its official website that serves as a one-stop guide for all information about weather in the city where the match would take place.
The weather forecast, updated everyday around 4 pm almost three-four hours ahead of the start of the first innings, predicts the minimum, maximum temperatures during the time of the match and also the wind speed and wind direction.
Yesterday, the IMD had correctly predicted rains in Kolkata where Kolkata Knight Riders took on Delhi Daredevils at the Eden Gardens.
This is the first time that the IMD is coming out with weather forecast for IPL matches. Earlier, it had come out with similar updates for 2011 World Cup cricket tournament as well as 2010 Commonwealth Games.
“This is an event that takes place in the country and we thought we should give weather updates and forecast for such events. We are providing such updates for many sectors and we thought we can give it for IPL tournament as well,” Mr B.P. Yadav, Director, IMD, told PTI.
He said the updates would be of help to both spectators and also the organisers, who can put in place a contingency plan in case it rains.
